Title: The Intersection Between Ethical Principles and Site Operations: How to Conduct an Ethical Clinical Trial

Presenter:  Laura R. Holtz, MS, PMP, CCRP, Senior Quality Specialist, Yale Cancer Center, Clinical Trials Office, Society of Clinical Research Associates (SOCRA) President

Time:  October 16, 2024 @ 6 pm

Location:  Gibbs Cancer Center & Research Institute Auditorium – Pelham, 2759 Hwy 14 South, Greer, SC 29650

Description:

Since the publication of the Beecher Report in 1966, the attention to clinical research ethics has been a cornerstone for clinical research training and education.  However, training to move the abstract ethical concepts into practice has been more limited.  This talk will demonstrate translating the founding ethical principles of clinical research into research processes for researchers and sites. Using the presentation of typical scenarios encountered in the daily operations of research sites, this talk will demonstrate the intersection of the ethical principles and site operations, evaluate the impact of ethics on process decision making, and present example tools and checklists to reinforce ethical decision making in daily research operations.

Learning Objectives:

  • To apply clinical research ethics principles to site research operation tasks and responsibilities.
  • Discuss developing sound clinical research processes for ethical compliance.
  • Evaluate tools and strategies for best practices in daily research operations.
