10:15-11:15 The Importance of Rural Sites in Clinical Research - Eyal Kedar, MD- St. Lawrence Health
When most people hear about clinical research their minds immediately go to major metropolitan cities as well as large academic centers. It is just as important if not more to be able to offer cutting edge research to individuals that may not have access to these centers such as rural areas and non-academic centers. These areas are often underrepresented in clinical research populations and often have unique demographics and social determinants of health that make them idea participants.
11:15-12:15 Things I Wish I Knew… Learning Lessons from Other People’s Mistakes (and Hopefully A Few Of Your Own!) - Kelly Unsworth, MS, CIP, CCRP- Director, Research Education & Training- University of Rochester
Mistakes are inevitable, both in life and in research. For clinical research professionals, learning from our mistakes is critical given the reliance on ‘on-the-job’ training. Unfortunately, the ‘on-the-job’ training someone receives is often only as good as the experiences they encounter and the experiences of the mentor providing job oversight. So, let’s learn from other people’s lessons (in a safe and supportive way, of course)! This session will reflect on lessons learned from various Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) professionals, including both simple and crucial advice, some ah-ha/light bulb moments, and maybe even a laughable confession. Come prepared to share some of your own lessons learned!
